Obituary

Mary Moore Halbach, 92, of Fort Myers, FL passed away on April 23, 2024. Mary was born on January 1, 1932, in Lawrence, MA to parents Hugh and Lillian (Fielding) Moore. She grew up in Lawrence and attended that city’s schools, graduating from Lawrence High School with high honors in 1950. She then studied business administration for two years at Burdette Business College, a junior college in Boston.
Mary married Eric Halbach of Andover, MA in June of 1953 and they were together for 55 years, until Eric’s passing in 2008. Mary and Eric were the hardworking and loving parents of two children, Eric Halbach, Jr. and Meryl Halbach Leahey. In addition to raising her children and supporting Eric in his engineering career, Mary worked for over thirty years as a secretary, first for businesses in Lawrence and then for the school system in Andover.
Mary is survived by her two children and their spouses, Kathy, the wife of Eric, and Bob, the husband of Meryl. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; she was a beloved Grandma to all of them!
Mary loved music and was herself an accomplished musician—she played the piano beautifully from an early age, later playing for her church and community, and then, up until three months ago, at Shell Point, where she resided for 20 years. Shell Point was also where she made some wonderful friendships that were especially important to her as her health failed. She was deeply grateful to all those friends, in particular to Caroline, who supported her closely when Mary was in the greatest need. Mary and her family are also grateful to Shell Point for the loving care that so many staff members there provided to Mary in her last illness. Funeral services will take place in early May in Andover, MA.

    Hi all. Meryl and Rick,
We loved your Mom's beautiful playing on the piano. She was so gifted and blessed. We all have fond memories of visiting in Andover and play games, singing at family gatherings. Your Mom was always so hospitable and accomidating. I am glad she has wonderful friends down in Florida ,and she was well cared for there. Praying for you in the loss. I still miss being able to call or visit Mom after 6 years. So give yourself time. Love Cousin Donna

Precious Mary played a significant part in my life these past few years and it was a privilege to be her friend. I will miss her terribly. As a result of dear Mary I’ve got to know her loving daughter Meryl. I continue to pray for Meryl and her family. No one could’ve been a more devoted daughter.
