Obituary

Mary Helen McGrory passed away on January 2nd after 93 great years. Born in Dodgeville, WI, she then lived with her parents Eugene and Margaret Conley in Victor, IA.  Mary Helen graduated from St. John’s HS in Victor and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA.  She received her nursing degree from Mercy Hospital in Davenport IA. She was working at Mercy Hospital when she married John McGrory. Shortly afterward they moved to Hartwick, IA where she worked as the company nurse at Amana and then the school nurse at HLV community schools. John and Mary Helen had 70 wonderful years of marriage and four children.  The McGrory family moved to Florida in 1972 and Mary Helen was able to devote her time to gardening, bridge and delivering Meals on Wheels among other interests. She was predeceased by John and their eldest child, Barbara Hess. Mary Helen is survived by son, Tom (Ellen), and daughters Mary Kay (Dave) Blenco, and Sarah (Mike) Owens, and Robert (Kathy) Hess. Mary Helen always had time for her children and grandchildren, Drew (Xan) Hess, Blake (Holly) Hess, Bryce (Jaimie), Chase (Lauren), Merideth Doty, Chris Owens, and Paige Owens and her eight great grandchildren.  She will be missed by all.  The funeral  mass will be at St. Paul’s Basilica, Daytona Beach, Tuesday, January 9th at 9 AM and burial will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL.  Arrangements are in the care and trust of Baldwin Brothers.
