Obituary
Michael Sirchis, 83, of Longboat Key, Florida, passed away on March 30, 2024. He was born on June 21, 1940, in Kishinev, Moldova. A physicist by profession, Michael dedicated his career to research at Avco Everett Research Labs and Textron. He was known for his keen intellect and passion for science and math. Michael was a well-traveled man with a thirst for knowledge. He loved to read. He was a storyteller, a student of life, and a conversationalist who could engage in discussions on a wide range of topics, both past and current. Outside of work, Michael led a vibrant life filled with diverse interests. He enjoyed dining out, playing Scrabble online with players from all over the world, attending the opera and other theater events. An avid pickleball player, sailor, racquetball, and squash enthusiast, he also stayed active through walking and biking. He was a generous man, providing guidance, support and assistance to family and friends. Michael started playing pickleball in 2021 and most mornings could be found playing round robin games at Bayfront Park on Longboat Key. While he loved the game, he also loved the camaraderie with the other players, telling jokes and sharing laughs, as he waited for his next turn on the court. Many friendships were formed over the last 3 years at Bayfront, and his family appreciates all the love and support shown by the pickleball community over the past 15 months. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy Sirchis, his daughter, Heidi Sirchis, daughter-in-law Donna Adams, brother-in-law Jerry Oland, sister-in-law Faith Oland, and nieces Bess Wadler, Maxine Vamosy, and Ruth Oland-Stuckey, as well as cousins in the US, Israel, England, and Brazil. A Celebration of Life will be held at the end of summer 2024 in Raymond, Maine, and another Celebration of Life will take place in November 2024 in Longboat Key, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Friends of Pickleball, Inc., at 7001 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Apt. 14, Longboat Key, FL 34228. Michael’s legacy will live on through the memories shared by those whose lives he touched.
