Michael was one of seven children born to Harry and Marilyn Phillips. He grew up on Royal Oak, Michigan where he discovered his passion for mechanics quite early. Mike built the engine for Nascar sanctioned car #111 and was also the Crew Chief for the team at Mt Clemens Race Track, Toledo Race Way and Milan Dragway. He performed different jobs while raising his growing family including owning multiple businesses. Even with his busy family and business life, he still made time to keep his racing passion alive.
While residing in TN in the late 1980’s he was Grand Marshall. His racing dreams continued as Crew Chief for Formula 1 racing in the 1990’s. His mechanical passions were on full display through the construction of his own hot rod, a 1963 Chevy 2 Nova, that he enjoyed prior to retirement.
Michael spent the last year of his life on “Island Time” soaking up the sun with the love of his life and wife, Robin. He was a loving Father & Papa. Michael will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and all who knew him.
Memorial services are in development, tentatively scheduled for October 9, 2021. Details will follow.
