Obituary
Orvel Phillip “Phil” Detmer, age 88 of Orlando, Florida went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Trimble County, Kentucky and moved to the Orlando area in 1987.
Phil is predeceased by his loving wife Beverly Joyce Detmer of 62 years. He is survived by his brother, Wayne Detmer and sister-in-law Elyse Detmer, two daughters, Sheryl “Sherrie” Fresh and son-in-law David Fresh and Lisa Kolb and son-in-law Jim Kolb as well as five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as his loving companion Shirley Steinberger, whom he dated for the last three years. His guidance, support, and unwavering love shaped the lives of his children, instilling in them the values of compassion, integrity, and perseverance.
Phil was a carpenter by trade and worked on many jobs throughout the United States. He was known for his skill and dedication to his craft. His hard work and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of many.
Phil was a diehard Orlando Magic basketball fan, having played basketball himself in high school. He watched every game he could and was so excited to watch them in the recent playoff games. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years. He also enjoyed travel, RV camping, and making wood crafts with his wife, Beverly, and both were very active in their church and in their devotion to the Lord.
Phil was also a cherished friend and confidant to many. His warmth, humor, and genuine compassion touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.
Phil’s legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us in the days ahead,
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Orvel Phillip Detmer will be held on May 1, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Orlando Lutheran Towers, 300 E. Church Street, Orlando, Florida 32801. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Orlando Lutheran Towers Foundation.
