Obituary

Paula Irene Rose Burch Warnicke, dedicated educator, beloved friend, and cherished Mother and Grandmother, passed away on February 13th, 2024, in Ormond Beach, FL, at the age of 74. Born on January 5th, 1950, in Birmingham, AL, Paula lived a life marked by laughter, hard work, and positive energy.

Paula’s academic excellence was evident from a young age, as she distinguished herself as the salutatorian of Headland High School class of 1968 and went on to achieve the honor of valedictorian at Mercer University in 1972. After earning her Master’s Degree at the University of Georgia her passion for education led her back to the classroom as a teacher.  She taught school for over 30 years where she also led extra curriculars such as coaching Academic Bowl and directing high school plays.

Outside of her professional endeavors Paula loved singing, and many moments in her life were narrated by impromptu lyrics.  She loved dachshunds, a family tradition passed down from her Aunt Vivian.  Paula also loved playing games.  It didn’t matter if it was cards, marbles, board games, or dominos, she loved the lighthearted competitive comradery, her laughter echoing through every gathering.  Paula’s mother started teaching her to play Bridge at age 11 and she would sit patiently with her grandchildren teaching them the rules and passing on the love of playing to them as well.

Paula’s church was a cornerstone in her life, and she found fulfillment in serving her church community with loyal devotion. She taught vacation bible school but her passion was in the church choir.  She sang in the choir most of her adult life and could be found singing or humming a tune in just about any daily situation.

Above all, Paula cherished the moments spent surrounded by her cherished friends, beloved neighbors, and adoring family. Her positive spirit, love of people, and bold laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Paula leaves behind a legacy of love, positivity, and resilience that will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched. While her physical presence may no longer grace this earth, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.

Paula Irene Rose Burch Warnicke is survived by her Children from her marriage to Dedrick, Paul Burch (Kristie) and David Burch (Jennifer) and four grandchildren Madelyn, Emma, David James and Robert Burch.  From her marriage to Bob in 1991, Paula gained Stepdaughter Leigh Anne Lioi (Chris) and Stepson Rob Warnicke along with grandchildren Lainey and Abbey Lioi and Riley and Ryan Warnicke.

At East Point Presbyterian Church I leaned on Paula's strong alto voice and learned much. As a church officer she served with intelligence, compassion and dedication. Another standout was her fantastic and clever sense of humor. I congratulate the author of her obituary because you knew her and her contributions well and expressed the treasure she was. So well-written.

Paula, my loving, brilliant, nutty Aunt oh how we miss you! Thank you for a life lived well as example for all of us to follow. Life threw curve balls but your faith in Christ remained because you knew God is able! Between the pain in hearts and the letting go, we boldly state, as scripture does, LOVE never dies. Your tent is no longer here but your love remains! It lives in all of us! I bet your leading heavenly choirs and between songs have the saints laughing.. one of my memories is your Mr. T impression from the A Team television show…. “ I pity the fool!” I can hear you say “ I pity the fool” who doesn’t believe in Jesus! This place is awesome!!!! Until we meet again I will miss you and love you always!
