Obituary
Peter James Chabucos, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in The Villages on February 18, 2020 after a prolonged illness.
Peter is survived by his wife Janet Treat-Chabucos; sons, Jay Chabucos of Phoenix, Arizona, Tod Chabucos of Columbus, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his first wife Sally Colwill-Chabucos of Annapolis and brother George of Rockford, Illinois. Peter was born on November 22, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois to parents James and Esther. He attended University of Colorado in Boulder with a wrestling scholarship and graduated from Rockford College in 1956 with a BS degree in Business Education. He then formed his own business as a Sales Representative. His passion was sailing Lake Erie and the Chesapeake Bay and often crewed from Lake Erie to Key West with friends. Each boat he owned got bigger and bigger. He was also a woodworker and had many projects going in his workshops wherever he lived. He enjoyed golf and pickleball in The Villages even entering the Senior Games in pickleball. His hidden talent was his writing skills as each Christmas he would send out a letter to his friends telling of his adventures. Later he traveled with wife Jan to Greece to locate the birthplace of his father and later to Italy and they also took many cruises. He will be remembered as a loving, kind, gentle soft-spoken man of honor. He always has a smile and good word to say about everyone. A funeral is scheduled for March 5th at St. George Episcopal Church at 1250 Paige Place in The Villages at 11am with a reception to follow. A private inurnment will be at Florida National Military Cemetery in Bushnell the same day. Father John Kelly will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peter’s life.
