Obituary

Peter F. Atkin, Age 81 passed away Friday, February 4, 2024.  He is survived by his wife Jan to whom he was married for 40 years, sons Scott & Brett, daughter Stacy and stepdaughter Michelle Vaughn, grandchildren Kalin, Kolin & Konner Atkin, Clay, Chaz & Colte Elkin, Noah and Liam Atkin, Trisha Zimmer and Jana Weiss.  Grandpa Pete was also blessed to see most of his grandchildren get married and see the family continue to grow with ten great grandchildren and more on the way.

Peter earned multiple degrees including an undergraduate degree from Hamilton College and a graduate degree from Case Western Reserve.  He retired from Taylor Made Industries where he was President of a number of companies.  Peter was an avid golfer and could be found on the course on weekends and most days in his early retirement.

He was very active in community efforts in his retirement, counseling the founders in the start-up efforts of Rock Steady Boxing in Garrett, IN, supporting the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, volunteering his time for the AARP in providing tax preparation services for many years in central Florida and most recently supporting SCORE as a volunteer mentor.

Pete loved his family.  He looked forward to phone calls and visits with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  His beach “Hideout” at Ormond-by-the-Sea had walls covered with photos of family, particularly his children and grandchildren (along with a few of his favorite cars – all Porsches).  He was always striving to make an impact in life, looking for ways to apply himself while helping others.  He leaves as his legacy the love and success of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Grandpa would say that he didn’t do everything right – but he did do the things that mattered most the best that he could!  Arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449.  Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
