Obituary

Raymond “Ray” Evans, loving father, grandfather “Pop -Pop” and a friend to all, died peacefully at his home in The Villages Florida surrounded by his family. He was 84. The son of the late Stanton and Emma Evans, Ray was born on February 27, 1936 in Ebensburg PA where he grew up on a large dairy farm. Upon graduating from high school, Ray continued his education at the Pennsylvania State University, receiving his degree in Agricultural Journalism in 1958. Ray enjoyed a successful career in the publishing industry serving as editor for several agricultural publications including Pennsylvania Farmer and Farm Journal. Ray retired in 1996.

Ray had many hobbies, including golf, wine making, traveling, cooking, woodworking and gardening. Ray was fortunate to be able to travel extensively during his life and was able to visit areas such as Australia, Europe, Spain and South America. But his favorite way to spend time was with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children; a son, Todd Evans of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, three daughters, Amy Quinton of Williamstown, New Jersey, Beth Crosby of West Deptford, New Jersey and, Meg Evans of Bangkok, Thailand and his cherished nine grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Sally (Williams) Evans, parents Stanton and Emma Evans, brother David (Gomer) Evans and sisters Milly Sloan and Susan Doherty.

A special thank you to all the family and friends for their loving care and support during his final days. He truly felt loved and comforted. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to: Cornerstonehospice.org.

It is because of the inspiration and love of Ray and Judy that we now have a home in The Villages. Ray’s world-famous pizza was absolutely fantastic and we so enjoyed our times together. Ray, you had a perfect partner with Judy during the past ten years and such full lives together which you happily shared with all your friends. We are very blessed to have been part of it with you both. We miss you greatly, but know that you are smiling down on us. Love to you always. Jeff and Kris

I've known Ray Evans since 2006 when we all moved into the Village of Caroline after it was sold out and opened up. He is one of the nicest and gentlest souls that I have ever known. He frequently talked of his travels with his companion of more than 10 years, Judy Daddona, with fondness and happiness. I know that Judy is devastated by this loss. I also know that his children sacrificed a lot in taking care of Ray the last months of his life and they have my sincere condolences and sympathy. Ray was a great friend and neighbor and will missed by his many friends here. With our deepest sympathy, Jim & Carolyn Christie
