Obituary

Richard (Dick) Arden Bernard (91), died at home October 26, 2022 in Bradenton, Florida. He is survived by his wife (Vidra). He is also survived by his son (Steven). He is survived by his mothers-in-law (Gen Huston and Shirley Kitsmiller). He is also survived by his fathers-in-law (Galen Huston and Donald Kitsmiller). He is survived by his brothers-in-law (Lawrence Kitsmiller, Justin Huston and Doug Bruegge). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law (Holli Bruegge and Rachel Bernard), nieces (Marcia Dalton, Shelly Hildreth, Debby Lawrence, Suzzane Wielbelhaus, Diane Pauley and Cindy van der Steere). He is survived by his nephews (Brad Bernard, Larry Bernard, Terry Wertz and John Bernard). Beloved friends/family Glenda Borron, Jason Hopwood and Nicole Hopwood.

Richard was born on July 13, 1931, in Ponca, Nebraska at home. He attended school in Ponca, Nebraska. He was involved in baseball, basketball, and football. He attended college in Nebraska.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. After his service, he returned to work for Great Plains Lumber company in Logan, Iowa.

Richard and his family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where they purchased the Cone-E-Corner restaurant. In 1978, he sold the restaurant and moved to Colorado, where he worked for Azar’s Big Boy and Walmart until his retirement.

Richard and Vidra moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1995. He enjoyed his job tasting orange juice for Tropicana, golfing with his buddies and working out at the YMCA with his huge group of wonderful friends. Richard never met a stranger.

Richard loved to travel. He also enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends and family. He loved the Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He faithfully watched his favorite teams on TV every week.

Richard was a life-long Lutheran. He and Vidra joined Living Lord Lutheran after finding the church. Richard served on the property committee/church counsel. He also served as an usher, communication assistant and computer operator.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents (Guy and Veigh), his son (Mark), brothers (William, Maxwell and John) and his sister (Florence Renee).

Join us at Living Lord Lutheran Church in Bradenton, Florida for the 1:00 p.m. service. And, please stay for refreshments following the service.
