Obituary

Richard Travis Rich, 66, Edgewater FL passed away May 25, 2020 at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach of natural causes with his daughter Melinda Gibbs and his loving wife Jamie at his bedside. Richard was born in Avon Park, FL to Earl and Vivian Rich. He moved to Edgewater over 30 years ago. Rick went by Richie Rich. Rick owned two hardware stores in Avon Park, FL. He later became a sales rep for several hardware distributors Genuine Hardware, Florida Hardware, Belknap & Moore, Handley and Sentry Hardware. He then journeyed into Mobility Scooters, In-Home Mobility Consultant covering the eastern central coastline of the state and Rascal Scooters for eight years until the business closed. Later he worked for Nationwide Medical for two years. Rich semi-retired and was looking for something to do when Scootaround called him to work for them for the next seven years at the Daytona flea and Farmers Market where he made lots of friends. Rick enjoyed gardening and cooking. Friends that knew him always wanted him to cook for their outings. He was also a bull rider at rodeos. He loved fresh water fishing and enjoyed impersonating Elvis. Rich enjoyed NASCAR along with being a Gator Fan and Dallas Cowboys fan (especially the cheerleaders, as he would say). He was a member of Florida Sheriff’s Association and supported the Youth Ranches. He was a member of National Rifle Assn and was a registered with NRA Police Firearms and State of Florida Commission of Police Officer Standards and Training. Richie was in Law Enforcement in Tallahassee during 1975.

He is survived by his loving wife Jamie, daughter Melinda Rich Gibbs, son-in-law Malcolm Gibbs, brother Randy Rich, sister Rita Rich Gettinger, nephew Scott Murphy, grandchildren Maddie and Lucas Gibbs, sister-in-law Nancy Meares, brother-in-law Gary Meares, mother-in law Kathryn Troutner and nieces Kristin Meares and Raechel Trounter. He had many, many friends. Donations are requested to the Florida Sheriff’s Assn Youth Ranches.

On the loss of my Husband They say life goes on, just give myself time to mourn, and accept , and to heal, Though none of that offers much comfort right now with the sorrow and loss I must feel... But then, in my heart, where I miss him the most , where friendship and love never cease, Somehow I'll know that he'd want nothing more than to see me find comfort and peace. May Our memories that mean the most to me live forever in my Heart. Love Jamie
