Robert Adler
Robert Adler, 90, passed away on January 30, 2018. Bob lived his final 2 years at Arden Courts in Winter Springs, FL. He was a 30-year resident of Indialantic, FL, formerly a 25-year resident of Barrington, RI, and a native of Belmont, MA. Bob, known in his younger years as “Ace”, was born in Boston, the son of Walter and Marguerite (Colwell) Adler. He graduated from Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge where he played baseball and basketball. Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and traveled the Pacific as a navigator aboard a YMS minesweeper. After returning from the Navy, he attended UMass and Boston University. After graduation he pursued his career in sales at Polaroid, Johnson and Johnson, General Fireproofing Co, and Emeco.
Bob literally married the girl next door in Belmont, Claire LaLiberté, to whom he was devoted. They shared 60 years together before Claire’s death in 2016. They raised their 3 daughters in Barrington RI and taught them to value family, education, self-reliance, and civility. He enjoyed golf, fishing, playing bridge and in his early years playing baseball and softball. He was an avid Red Sox and later Tampa Bay Rays fan. Bob played golf well into his late 80s and hit several holes-in-one at Spessard Holland golf course. Even while living in a memory care facility, Bob was known for his unfailing politeness and friendly smile.
Bob was predeceased by his brother Walter Adler. Bob is survived by his 3 daughters: Lynn and her husband David McDonell of Harvard, MA; Nanci and her husband Don Crowell of Maitland, FL and Susan Eckberg and her husband Dan of Grapevine, TX. Bob’s grandchildren are: Jacquelyn (Crowell) Holt and her husband Daniel; Emily (McDonell) Faherty and her husband Brendan; Elizabeth Crowell; Christopher Eckberg; Jordan McDonell; Sarah Eckberg; Hannah McDonell; and Matthew Eckberg .
