Obituary

Robert “Bob” Paul Sebastian, 77, long-term resident of Glassboro, New Jersey, peacefully passed away at his home in Summerfield, Florida on February 20, 2022 surrounded by family, after a difficult battle with cancer.

Bob was born on January 10, 1945 to Robert Sebastian and Betty Sebastian in the bustling city of Pittsburgh and was the oldest of 7 children. After Bob graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1963 he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at Rutgers University.

After graduation, he worked in probation for the State of New Jersey for nearly 45 years. Bob was passionate about the service he provided to the clients he served and loved what he did for a living. After joining the state as a senior probation officer in Camden, New Jersey, Bob was later promoted to assistant chief and then chief probation officer of the vicinage for Camden County. In 2005 he was appointed as assistant director of probation services for New Jersey’s Judiciary – heading probation services for the state.

In 1988, he met the love of his life Susan at a birthday party. Bob and Susan married in 1991 raising 3 girls together.

Bob retired at the end of 2008. While retired, he had time to fully pursue his love of wood working, watching and attending NASCAR races, being pappy to his grand-daughters, spending time with his dog Elliot, and his beloved Sue.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Robert as well as sisters Michelle Eckert nee Sebastian and Marybeth Wilcox nee, Sebastian. He is survived by his wife Susan; sisters Diana Reay, Patty Wilcox, Barbara Pawlack, Debbie Lutton Susan Sebastian-Watson; children Michael Sebastian, Christina Rakus, Andrea Sebastian, Kristy Owen, Becky Mathews, and Barbara Rosenfeld; and grandchildren Ivy, Emily, Logan, Shayna, Maddison, Realyn, Amelia and Ziggy.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Bob. He was the Assistant Director of Probation when I became one of his 15 Vicinage Chiefs. He was professional, soft spoken and you instinctively knew of his commitment to Probation and the clients they served. May his family be consoled by memories of his life long and well lived. And may he Rest In Peace.
