Obituary
Robert Carlisle Maroon passed away April 2, 2017, in Leesburg, Florida at the age of 91. Bob was born on March 17, 1926 in Brewer, Maine to Hazel Nadeau and George E. Maroon. He attended John Bapst Catholic High School in Bangor, Maine. In 1944, he left school to enlist in the Army Air Corps. After three years he returned and graduated from Lewiston High School where he excelled in football. Bob continued his education and studied at the University of Maine and the University of New Hampshire.
On, July 2, 1949, Bob married Barbara J. Brooks in Lewiston, Maine. They were happily married for 50 years and blessed with 2 children.
Bob was the Eastern Regional Training Supervisor for Victor Comptometers moving to NYC; Albany, NY; Scottsdale, AZ and Hampton, NH. The last 24 years were spent between Florida and the coast of Maine. In retirement Bob enjoyed volunteering at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. He was an avid golfer, skier and bicyclist.
It was in Florida where Bob met and married his current wife, Shirley Lepold Maroon. He continued to maintain his skills at golf and dancing.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Barbara B. Maroon, a brother G. Edward Maroon and a sister Mary M. Banulis.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, that lovingly cared for him in his declining health; a daughter, Marsha M. Hovis, (Ken) of Port Allegany, PA and Apache Jct., AZ; a son, Robert C. Maroon, Jr., (Sally) of Whitefield, NH and Boothbay Harbor, ME; two step children, Jennifer May, (Dennis) of VA and Matthew Lepold (Laura) of NY; a grandson, Casey Maroon, (Sarah) of Whitefield NH and Boothbay Harbor, ME: a great-granddaughter Marin Maroon; a sister Jeannett M. Dube, (Don) of ME; a special nephew G. Edward Maroon III, (Anne) of Lewiston, ME; and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg, FL on Friday, April 7, 2017, at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Veterans Administration or Hospice.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Togus National Cemetery in Augusta, ME.
