Obituary

Robert Ortiz, of Hallandale Beach, Florida passed into eternity at his daughter’s home on November 13, 2021. He was 93 years old.

Robert is survived by his children, Catherine T. Wise of Lady Lake, Florida and Robert E. Ortiz of McHenry, Illinois; his 5 grandchildren, Amy, Michael and Jason Coello and Amanda and Justin Ortiz; his 10 great grandchildren, David and Nathan Rivera, Robert, Jordan, Serenity, Anastasia, Gianna, Mercedes, Austin and Alex Coello; and his three great-great grandchildren, Julian Rivera, Ariel Coello and Alex Smith; brother Edwin Ortiz; sister Carmen D’Oro Molina. He was preceded by his wife of 66 years, Teresa Ortiz.

Robert was born in New York City, New York in 1928 to Emilio Ortiz and Rosario Rivera. At the age of 2 He was moved to Puerto Rico where he grew up till he returned to New York City at the age of 17. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the US Army where he served proudly.

Later on, at the age of 27 he met and married the love of his life, Tery.

He worked at the Statler Hilton and the New York Hilton hotels.

In 1960, he moved his family to Union City, New Jersey where he raised his two children until he moved to Hialeah, FL in 1974. Always a hard worker and a great provider for his family he continued to work in South Florida where he retired from Canada Dry of Florida.

He will be remembered for his love for dancing, his corny jokes, being the life of the party, always having a hug for everyone he met, his determination to overcome any obstacle that came his way, but most of all, for his intense love for his family. We will all miss him till we meet again.

A memorial to celebrate his life is scheduled for 2 PM on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at First Christian Church, 1701 Vine Street, Leesburg, FL 34748 with a reception to follow at 5620 Berts Rd., Lady Lake, FL.
