Obituary

Rodney Don Johnson, 87, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away on December 21, 2016 at the Halifax Health Hospice Ormond Beach Care Center. He was born on August 16, 1929 in Utica, New York to the late Merritt and Beatrice (Colgrove) Johnson. Rodney was a Veteran of the United States Army and he retired as a Teacher. He enjoyed guns and spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughter, Kristen Schaffer; his son-in-law, Dennis Schaffer; his two grandchildren Allison Davis-Lubke (Brandon) and Justin Rubner; and his great-granddaughter, Alexandra Davis-Lubke. Arrangements are in the care and trust of Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, Ormond Beach, Florida.

    Dearest Rodbear.... Every morning for 15 years the first thing I did when I got up was to open my back door and all the windows as I like light and I like to look out. I always saw your house with it's many windows looking at me, and I checked to make sure it was dark there, because you slept later than I did. When I would see a light on early in the morning, I would check on you later in the day. You are missed, but I feel peace from you, and for that I am grateful...

    Dear Rod... it is with tears still that I think of you... You will be missed. I'm glad to know that you are finally with your Junebug... You had such wit, and a wonderful way with words. I will always remember the many ways in which we communicated with one another.. funny messages, messages of care, and always a touch of humor and love. You will be greatly missed by us... a good, kind and wonderful neighbor. So glad you were in our lives. Everyone we meet touches teaches us... You did that for us in so many ways.     Rod was a cousin I did not get to know until later in my life. He was fun to interact with and both my wife, Kathy, and I enjoyed email exchanges with him. RIP Rod.
