Obituary
Sally McWhorter Carico, 84, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2024, in Fort Myers, FL. She was born on November 30th, 1939, in Ogdensburg, NY to Walter and Grace Yerdon.
Sally led a life rich in experiences and left an indelible mark on all she met through her boundless humor and feisty navigation of life’s trials and joys.
She graduated from Fort Myers High School and attended Edison College. After a 30-year tenure with the State of Florida as a healthcare worker, Sally retired and enjoyed hobbies such as researching and documenting the family’s ancestry, camping, antiquing, sewing crafts, and playing BINGO.
Throughout her life, Sally greatly enjoyed traveling the United States and gatherings with her extensive family, particularly the Halloween and Christmas holidays. She had a fondness for her birthplace in upstate New York and the surrounding area of Black Lake. Her family will remember her affectionately for her spirited resilience, storytelling embellishments, and deep, unforgettable laugh.
She is preceded in death by three children, Baby J., James “Jimmy,” and Christopher; siblings Bert Irving, William, Harold, and Walter Yerdon.
She is survived by siblings Edwin Yerdon and Juanita Renfroe; children Jamie (Dennis) Jackson, Jeffery (Jessica) McWhorter, Jon (Jody) McWhorter, Jennifer (James) Cannon, Gary (Kelli) Carico; grandchildren Heather and Ashley (Rosa) McWhorter, Michael, Joseph, and Joshua Cannon, Francie (Jennifer) Moser, Erin McWhorter, Kylie (Matthew) Bitting, Kevin (Emma) Carico; many great-grandchildren, extended relatives, and beloved companion pet Bandit “Scooter” McWhorter.
A viewing will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Myers, FL on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, between 10am and 12pm. The remembrance of life service will begin at 12pm. Sally McWhorter Carico will be laid to rest at Lee Memorial Park alongside her sons Jimmy and Chris.
