Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) Lee Britton, 82, of Sherman, Illinois, passed away at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida, on Monday, March 2, 2020.  She was born on December 21, 1937, the daughter of Leon and Mary Louise (Reavis) Yeaman in Springfield, Illinois.  She married Donald Britton on July 22, 1955.

Sandy married her high school sweetheart, Don Britton, in Pensacola, Florida. They have been married for 64 years.  Sandy was loved by all and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She loved to travel, but the most important thing in her life was her family.  Sandra and Don have three children, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews.

On their 60th anniversary, they renewed their vowels in the presence of their children on the beach in Florida.  She was a breast cancer survivor, an avid golfer and enjoyed her children and grandchildren immensely.  She worked for Horace Mann Insurance Company for 29 years before retiring. Sandy was a member of the Sherman Methodist Church.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Donald; sister, JoAnn (husband Paul) Collins of Rochester, Illinois;  two sons, Donald (wife Sue) Britton of Petersburg, Illinois, and David (wife Dianne) Britton of Petersburg; one daughter, Vicki (husband Gary) Kidd of Petersburg; eight grandchildren, Tiffany (husband Pat) Rebbe of Petersburg, Rachel (husband Dan) West of Athens, Illinois, Tyler (wife Kaylee) Britton of Petersburg, Justin (wife Heather) Britton of Petersburg, Jonathan (wife Kasey) Britton of Petersburg, Brittany (husband Dan) Ferguson of St. Louis, Missouri, Rachel Needham of Petersburg, Matt Needham of Petersburg.  She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren (Ben, Brysen, Caroline, Evelyn, Hadley, Joey, Leah, Liam, Logan, Madilyn, Mason, Melanie, & Olivia).

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nancy (husband Ronald) Burris of Rochester, Illinois.

A private visitation will be held for Sandra’s family on Sunday.  An open Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family following from 4pm-6pm Sunday, March 8th 2020 at Shambolee Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sandra’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, or the Alzheimer’s Association at 2309 W. White Oaks Drive, Suite E. Springfield, Illinois 62704.

Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois, is in charge of serving the Britton family.
