Obituary

Sandra Pauline Pryde, 81, of Elgin, IL passed away in Fort Myers, FL on November 19, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul and Kathryn J. Sampson of Decatur, IL, and her brother Cedric Sampson of Eureka, CA.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Jerry Pryde, her son Craig (Mary Beth) Pryde, daughter Dana (Thomas) Redburg, grandchildren Keri (Cyrus) Rogers, Meaghan Pryde, Kelli (Tyrous) Pryde, Marcus Redburg and Maja Redburg, great granddaughter Paige Rogers, sister-in-law Judy (Cedric) Sampson-Huson, brothers Kent Sampson and Steven (Kathleen) Sampson and several nieces and nephews.

Born April 23, 1939 in Pembroke, NC and a member of the Lumbee Indian Tribe, she lived most of her early life in Taylorville and Decatur, IL. A graduate of Decatur High School in 1957, she attended Washington University and Milliken University where she met and married Jerry and moved to Elgin, IL. She worked for Elgin Sheet Metal, Church of the Brethren and the Brethren Benefit Trust and retired after 24 years of service in 1999. She was a gracious host to visiting family, friends and colleagues. She and Jerry eventually retired to a winter home in in Fort Myers, FL. She was a long time member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Plato Center, IL (formerly Faith United Methodist Church, Elgin, IL) and was active in a number of their social programs. She loved to sew anything from crafts, to clothes, to draperies and enjoyed cooking for everyone. She was also a member of the Belmont Yacht Club, where she enjoyed the non-technical aspects of sailing and being the “First Mate”. She enjoyed a life of travel with her husband and family circling the globe visiting family, friends and making new memories. She will be missed by those who experienced her hospitality and love.

A private family service will be held in Ft. Myers, FL and arrangements will be made for a celebration of life later in Elgin, IL as the pandemic allows. Memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Road Elgin, IL 60124.
