Obituary

Sheila Kay Ashcroft (nee Hawkins), age 75, passed away peacefully the morning of Thursday, February 22, 2024, after a brief, unexpected illness.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  Sheila was born and raised in Highland Park, Michigan, which is where she met her devoted husband of 56 years, Gary Ashcroft.  Together they had three children and built a wonderful life in Dearborn, Michigan where they both worked for the Dearborn Public School System.  After retirement, Sheila and Gary made northern Michigan their home and spent over 20 years traveling the world and living life to its fullest.  Sheila loved spending time with her beloved family, attending sporting events – especially those of her grandchildren, traveling, her dog, crossword puzzles, Bingo, Wordle and Mahjong.  Her cooking and amazing canned strawberry jam will be missed by many.  Sheila is survived by her husband Gary, children Jodi & Scott Laquiere, Julie & Mike Anderson, Jack & Amber Ashcroft, her grandchildren Kayla, CJ, Thomas, Sydney, Pierce and Millie, her brother David (Helen) Hawkins, and many other beloved family members and friends.  The family is planning a service to celebrate her life at a date yet to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local hospice, Leader Dogs for the Blind or Disabled American Veterans.

I was a student of Mr. Ashcroft at Woodworth in the early 70s. He and I had a long-running disagreement about the locations of "North" versus "South" in his Social Studies class. I am SO very sorry to hear of your loss Mr. Ashcroft; it is clear you had a blessed life and family created with your beloved wife Sheila. My deep condolences to you and your precious family. May God give each of you His peace as you navigate your way through your grief. Mary B.

Sheila was a childhood classmate from the 1st grade thru 7th at Liberty school and in the 8th grade at Ford Junior High until we moved away. She was always the bright spot in our classes and we'll liked by everyone. It seems she lived her whole life like that.
I know she'll be missed by many.

Sometimes we meet people along life's way, if only for a little while, and it makes all the difference in our walk together.
Gary & Sheila made the walk special.

The Ashcrofts were the first successful marriage I had ever seen. I always appreciated that. They were both so giving and such good people.
Always thinking of others. Mrs. Ashcroft always made me feel welcome in her home. Just a good person.
