Obituary

Shirley Griffin (nee Tobey) 83 of Venice, Florida passed away surrounded with love and family on April 28, 2024. Born in Rockville Center, Long Island to the late Herbert and Sophia Tobey. Shirley and her siblings Fanny, Karen, Michael, and David grew up in a large extended family in Passaic County, New Jersey where many family memories and traditions began. She is survived by her beloved husband, James Griffin who faithfully stood by her side for 55 years. She was a loving mother to Wayne (Wendy), Lora (Rick), Jay (Stacey) and Shawn (Sara) and stepson Steven (Georgianna). Proud grandmother of Kelly (Nael), Summer (Wes), Ryan (Jonetta), Kaitlyn, Olivia, Megan, Macie, Michele, Stacy and Gianna. She adored her great grandchildren Judah and Asher, Alexa, Steven, Tyler, and Teagan.

Shirley loved anything that sparkled, and her personality lit up the room. She was the most extravagant giver to anyone who had a need. Shirley worked as a paralegal and nail salon owner. She also devoted many hours of wholehearted service to the People Steeple at Jacksonville Chapel. Despite her busy schedule, she hosted many holiday meals and Sunday dinners with her beloved family. Everything was an adventure with Shirley-you never know what treasure was lurking at the next garages sale or thrift store! Her impact and generosity reached far and wide and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she loved.

Per her request, Shirley will be cremated, and no services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or Tidewell Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing 2 Tim 4:7,8
Beautiful life, beautiful lady...you will be missed, but imagining you dancing on the sparkling streets of heaven brings a smile to my face!
