Obituary

Steven W. Rogers lost a 14-month heroic battle with cancer on Sept. 29 at the age of 64.  A native of Hampton IA, Steve attended Ellsworth Jr College, Drake Univ. and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Simpson College in Business Mgt.   Steve began his career with MidAmerican Energy (then Iowa Power) in 1973, retiring in 2008 from the Bettendorf District Mgr. position.

 

Steve enjoyed playing sports.  His favorite was baseball.  Steve still holds the pitching ERA record from his H.S.  He was recognized for his skill in tennis, golf and volleyball.  An avid scuba diver, Steve loved the ocean and spent many vacations fulfilling this passion.

 

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years Donna (Babe) Bensley Rogers; step-daughters Jacquelyn Ezell of Urbandale, IA and Amy Brooks (Larry) of Cedar Park, TX; grandchildren Jordan, Nashua, Cora & Ben; sister Shirley Torkelson (Roger) of Forest City, IA; nephew Brian Duncan (Bridget) of Dakota City, IA; brother Dean Rogers (Marcia) of Coralville, IA; goddaughter Christine Rogers of Lacrosse, WI; and friend & sister-in-law Diana Ross (Stephen) of The Villages, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents Robert John and Eleanor (Dolly) Braumann Rogers.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Sat., Oct. 21 from 6:30 to 9 pm at Spectators, 3200 Adventureland Dr, Altoona, IA.  Memorial donations can be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL  32778.

    Donna, Jackie & Amy. I am so sorry for your loss. It has been many years since I last saw Steve but I still remember what a wonderful man and dad he was while we were growing up. My love and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
