Obituary
Susan Goodson, 67, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Brevard County, Florida. Susan was a long time resident of Port Saint John, FL.
Susan was born February 26, 1953 to Troy and Jeanette Harrelson Goodson in Marianna, Florida. She moved with her family to Cocoa when she was in elementary school and graduated from Cocoa High School.
Susan’s first real job was at Disney World in Orlando. She did not like the drive and didn’t enjoy apartment living. She moved back home and went to work for the City of Cocoa Utilities Department. That’s where she learned ones and zeros, tape decks and punch cards. This training stood her in good stead for her career at Kennedy Space Center. During her 25 years she worked for Computer Science Corporation, Rockwell International, Lockheed Space Operations Company and The Boeing Company. Much of her time was spent in Firing Rooms performing Quality Control functions. Susan loved the Shuttle Program and enjoyed traveling to Houston, Texas and California sites.
Susan surfed in her younger days and always had a ski boat. She liked to fish and enjoyed being out on either the Indian or Banana River. She loved Yorkies and had two over the years; Precious Jewel and Zoey. Most mornings you could find Susan taking Zoey for a walk and letting her pretend she was going to catch that squirrel.
Susan was a devout member of the Coastal Community Church at Port Saint John and regularly attended the Women’s Bible Study. She also was a part of the Port Ministry which ministers to the crews of the cruise ships at Port Canaveral. Susan was a great cook. She always had a special to share when the church had dinners and often would share her goodies with friends. She made divine pound cake from her mother’s from scratch recipe.
Susan is survived by her sister, Janey Diogo, nephew Jason and his wife Sarah and their children Kyle, Tyler, Aja and Piper Diogo, and her brother, Tom Goodson and his wife Evelyn and their children nephew Travis and his wife Erin and children Marissa and Holden Goodson, and her niece Lindsey Rapacz and her husband Brad and son Brantley.
Susan will be missed but never forgotten.
There will be a life Celebration at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 6, 2020 at the Coastal Community Church, 5795 Falcon Blvd., Port St. John, Florida 32927 with The Reverend Tracy Claytor officiating. Susan’s final resting place will be the Macedonia Methodist Church Cemetery, Dozier, Alabama where she will be interred in a family plot next to her parents.
In lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Susan to Coastal Community Church will be appreciated.
She loved her family, her church and especially the Lord.
Susan was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Rest In Peace, you are Home.
