Obituary

Terry Ray Odom of Merrillville, Indiana passed away suddenly at his home in Naples, Florida on 12/27/23.

Terry was born in Gary, Indiana on 6/14/59 to Patty LaVerne and George Ray Odom. He attended school in Merrillville, Indiana and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1977.

Terry built a business in Naples, Florida called, ‘Terry’s Window Treatments’, and worked all aspects of his business from sales to installations. He was dearly loved by so many and was a ‘Jack of all Trades’, willing to help anyone in need.

Terry loved sports and played competitive volleyball on Marco Island in his younger years turning to golf in his later years.

Terry was a hero in his own right, being awarded the Carnegie Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts to save Ray J. Davis from drowning on July 3, 2004, when his vehicle was sinking in 25 foot-deep water. He was of the nature to jump into action during natural disasters and would offer help to anyone that he came across.
On several occasions, Terry went on mission trips to Haiti to help in building schools and other facilities for the residents there.

Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Patty LaVerne Odom, his father, George Ray Odom, and other mother, Virginia Odom.

He is survived by four sisters; Angela (Matt) Piserchio; Brenda Odom; Sandra (Dean) Coican; Patty (Tim) Russ; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be help at the home of Tim and Patty Russ, 2576 Tyron Avenue, Deltona, Florida, on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 5:00pm.

Terry’s ashes will be buried at Bethel Cemetery in Pleasantville, Tennessee, his ancestral burial ground, with a private ceremony to be help for family and close relatives at a later date.

How very sorry we are to lose our Godly brother. Went on several missions with him, met his lovely family in TN, enjoying their hospitality and cabin. Just a wonderful guy, always smiling and ready to champion Godly causes, we will miss him. So sorry we weren’t notified to attend his memorial.

Terry and I were newer friends introduced through his longtime friend Andy. I’m retired electrician from Chicago and was bored. Terry and I connected right away. I helped him with his window shade business, helped him get his life back on track. We were brothers from another mother brothers in Christ. I’m gonna miss him dearly.
    Rest in peace, brother!
