Timothy Michael Kates, 48 passed away on Sunday June 7, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Tim was a lifetime native of New Smyrna Beach, and felt a loving connection with many residents and visitors to the area. He was preceded in death by his father John J. Kates III. He is survived by his loving wife JoEllen Kates, his son Dylan, his Mother Mary Ann Kates, his brother John J. Kates IV, his sister Jessica K. Clabaugh (Richard Clabaugh), 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was employed by Sunrise Condominiums for many years as a building superintendent, his second home, and his extended family. He was a devoted husband and father, and a friend to many, who will miss him very much. A gathering will be held Friday June 12th from 5-7pm at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach. The funeral ceremony will be held Saturday June 13th at 10am at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach followed by a graveside service at DeLand Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
