Obituary

Tommy Lynn Kemp will be sorely missed by those who knew him. He was a fun, loving guy who loved to travel cross country, fishing and dancing with his wife of 15 years, fishing with his buddies on any given day.

He loved to laugh, cut up and enjoyed those who brought laughter to his world too. He had a great laugh and smile! He enjoyed going out on Kentucky Lake on his pontoon boat going fishing, taking naps and swimming trips with his kids and grandkids. And most of all, he loved his little dog, Diesel who always wanted to go to the park with his daddy. He will be greatly missed!

Tommy was born to Sam and Minnie (Thompson) Kemp on October 18, 1938, in Cottage Grove, Tennessee. He had one sister and three brothers.

He was known for his loyalty and passion for life. He was a hard worker and from a young age he performed many different jobs to feed his young family after serving two years in the Army for our country. When he would tell stories of his work in the past, he was passionate about his skill working with his hands. His jobs included working at Rheem, a steel mill, Dixie Cup Company, the stockyards in Chicago and at the docks in Chicago. He could repair, rebuild and construct almost anything he put his hands too. If a project was for a child, he went full force with love for it to be finished perfectly.

One of his best buddies Ron, told a story about the time when Tommy and his buddies including Ron, all went to Wisconsin on a fishing trip. It rained a lot that day, so they ended up being pinned up in a tent all day. Tommy could not sit still long enough, restless he was up and down, bending over often, all day. Each and every time he bent over, his cheeks would sneak out the top of his pant waist. His buddies decided that they needed to give him a nickname of ‘two moons’ and it forever stuck!

Every Saturday in the eleventh hour with great anticipation he looked forward to chatting with who referred to lovingly as his boss, his daughter Chris. And for that hour or two she had his complete undivided attention.

Over his 84 years he had gained numerous long-lasting friendships with Ron and Betty Mausunas, Tom and Lynn Anderson, Frankie & Betty Dappas, Jason ‘cornbread’ and Shannon Parker, Angela Benkley, Kim Zik-Watson, and Don Harding (our landscaper for last 11 yrs).

He genuinely loved his family especially his numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He would get so excited when he knew they were coming to visit. Couldn’t keep him from pacing the floors!

He loved ice cream and double bubble gum.

Tommy passed away a few days after his 84th birthday. He slipped peacefully away on Saturday the 22nd of October 2022 in the eleventh hour at his home with his wife and some of his kids by his side.

He is preceded by his mother whom he adored, his father, his first wife Evelyn McGill Kemp whom he cared for until her last breath, his sister Nalma, his brothers A.D., Melvin, Wallace and his son Michael ‘Mike’ McGill.

He is survived by his wife Lillian ‘Loreen’ Kemp. For 15 years he was dedicated, loyal and loved her with his heart, body and soul. He cared for her through the many heart surgeries, leg surgeries and her failing health until he couldn’t.

He is survived by his children Kenneth (Robin) McGill, Christine (McGill) Rosner, Catherine McGill, Lawrence ‘Larry” McGill, Thomas ‘Tommy’ (Andrea) Kemp Sr., Daniel ‘Danny’ (Paula) Kemp, Lewis (Thera) Dockery, Harley (Tammy) Dockery, Michael (Julie) Dockery, Jeff (Amy) Dockery, Michelle (Eppy) Dockery Armijo, Jose ‘Joe’ (Cheryl) Dockery, Ricardo ‘Ricky’ (Christie) Dockery.
