Obituary

Vicki Elaine Hutchings, 72, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away surrounded by her family on July 4, 2023. She was born on July 28, 1950, in Galesburg, Illinois, to the late Marvin and Shirley (Berry) Hutchings. She was preceded in death by her brothers Marvin Steve, and Jimmy Dean (Cindy) Hutchings, sister-in-law Vickie Hutchings, and her granddaughter Serenity Angelique Garza.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Michele (Byron) Ward, and Angela Garza (Vernelet Peters), as well as her granddaughters Mackenzie Ward (Will Alicia), Kaylee (Jonathan) Nativi, and Samantha Ward (Manuel Reina). Vicki was very loved by her great-grandchildren Aaliyah and Lorenzo and was waiting patiently on her two upcoming great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Leroy Hutchings, and her daughters father Phillip Garza, as well as her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Vicki was known for her unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She was always there for her family and would go to great lengths to ensure their happiness and well-being. Her selflessness and willingness to make sacrifices for her daughters were truly remarkable.

Professionally, Vicki had a career as a cosmetologist at Hair Happening for a few years. Later, she dedicated 26 years of her life to Lowe’s before retiring. Despite facing health challenges, including battling Multiple Myeloma since 2016 and colon cancer for the past 1 1/2 years, Vicki remained strong and fought courageously. Her family provided her with constant love and support, fulfilling her wish to be surrounded by their presence until her last breath.

As per her wishes, she chose to be cremated no formal services will be held. However, there may be a celebration of life in Vicki’s honor at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and pay tribute to her remarkable life.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Humane Society and the American Cancer Society. Vicki had a deep love and compassion for animals, and supporting this organization would be a fitting way to honor her memory.

Vicki will be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering strength, and her dedication to her family. Her legacy of selflessness and kindness will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace.
