Obituary

Rida, as she was known and loved, went home to her Lord on February 17, 2024 after a decline in health and an extended stay at a nursing facility in Bradenton, FL.  Rida was born in Elmhurst, IL in June of 1934 to Pauline and Henry Wiegrefe where she joined her two sisters, Ruth Ann (Davis) and Betty (Groner).  Rida remained In Elmhurst until a few years after graduating from York Community High School.  Rida worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for several years, Goldblatt’s Department Store in the back office and the front line at a McDonald’s.  Rida was also an active volunteer for many organizations including 4-H, Meals on Wheels in both Illinois and Florida, as well as her church.  Rida loved children–raising two young sons, Richie and Scott, with her husband Richard.  Rida enjoyed traveling throughout the country with Rich in their 5th wheeler for many years after Rich retired.  She appreciated the marvelous scenery and diverse beauty across the US.  Her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews all looked forward to Aunt Rida’s special cookie-baking days which made treasured memories!  Her generosity and capacity for love was unbounded.  Rida’s relatives will cherish her stories and memories and her capacity for love, knowing that she is so much more comfortable and happy in her new home in Heaven.

Aww cookie days were the BEST! We used to eat more dough than we baked cookies but Aunt Rida never said anything. LOL! She was a wonderful lady and will be truly missed. I can just see her and Grandma hugging it out in heaven and that makes my heart happy.
