Obituary

Walter “Wally” Stockreiter, age 90 passed away Thursday October 22, 2020 due to complications from Alzheimer’s.

He was born on January 26, 1930 in Vienna, Austria and raised by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Unfried, in Wagram, Austria.

Wally did his apprenticeship as a tool and dye maker in Vienna from 1946-1949. He worked at two small shops in Vienna before coming to Canada in 1953 on a freighter at age 23 with only $14 dollars in his pocket. He needed a sponsor to come to the United States for a job so in 1955 Ford Motor Co. sponsored him. He worked for Ford, and Fago Pop in Detroit, MI., Sunbeam in Chicago and retired from Lamb Technicon in Warren, MI. After retiring he moved to Ocala, FL in 1994.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife, Reine Stockreiter in 1994. He will be dearly missed by his longtime friend and caretaker Carolyn Sue Kemmer, Dennis Kemmer and other friends and neighbors.

A private funeral will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

A Poem for My Friend

I lost my friend years ago
Though he died just yesterday;
The man he was had been stolen from him
As his memory faded away.

The person he became in recent years
Was a dependent little child;
He needed constant attention and care,
Which he accepted with a kiss and a smile.

I look forward to the day when I’ll see him again,
I have promised him we will be neighbors;
We’ll work on the pond and yard together,
Then enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Till then I will find other things to do
Since my time with my friend is done;
I’ll console myself now with thoughts of the future
Since life everlasting he’s won.

    To my best friend and neighbor ever. I miss seeing you next door to my house and it is not the same without you. I know now that your pain is over and your pride and independence has been restored. I hope you can forgive me for putting you in that horrible assisted living facility and know why I had to do so. You taught me so many things over the years and I will treasure our good times together and miss your funny personality. Your last wish was to have your ashes returned to Austria and put in the Danube River and I intend to do so for you. You called me The Queen because I was bossy to you and I told you that every man needs a boss so it might as well be me. So your Queen will say good bye for now until we meet again. It has been an honor to be your caretaker for 26 years.
    Love,
    Carolyn Sue Kemmer
