Obituary

Welton Christopher Davenport was born in Georgetown Guyana on October 5, 1942 to the late Olga Davenport. He was the fourth of six children. As a child growing up Welton attended Saint Gabriel’s Primary School, Lodge Secondary School and proceeded to further his education at Saint Rose’s High School in Guyana. In his adult years Welton worked as a seaman on a boat up until he migrated to the United States in 1981. When Welton arrived to the United States he started his career at the Bronx Hospital as a dietary aide. He later obtained his security license and worked at various institutions such as Carver Federal Bank, Chase Manhattan Bank, and he ended his career at Allied security. On February 4, 1994 he met his beloved wife Gloria Sealy Davenport and they got married on August 29, 1977. Welton loved music, he love pets, and he enjoyed cooking very much. Welton was known for his Chow Mein, his Okra and Rice, his Chicken Foot Souse, and his Pepper Pot which was his specialty. On Sunday you will find him listening to his Caribbean gospel music while attending to his birds his fishes and his dog Rusty. Upon his retirement Welton and his beloved wife relocated to Ocala, Florida where he spent the remainder of his days up until his untimely passing. After settling in Florida Welton enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, landscaping, and planting fruits and vegetables. In time he started a business as a lawn care worker, mowing the lawns for a few of the Ocala locals. His second hobby was attending to his livestock in which he had animals such as but not limited to chickens, ducks, and rooster. In May 2021 Welton suffered a freak accident while tending to his clients lawn which resulted in his being paralyzed. He was hospitalized and then later transferred to Timber Ridge Rehab for long-term care up until his death. It was Friday, September 16, 2022 when God called Welton home. Welton is survived by his wife Gloria Sealy Davenport, his brother Travis David, his sisters Dorette Hart Cravene Kelly and Aleana Smith, brothers Carlton Davenport (deceased), Troy Davenport, Leon Wilson (deceased), and Michael Roach, stepsons Stephen Sealy and Sherwin Charles, stepdaughters Phyllis Sealy Pierre and Michelle Leslie, grandchildren Jamal Davenport, Trisha Davenport, Shaneeza Davenport and Shamar Davenport, his step grandchildren Edwin, Philip, and Christina Pierre and Marcus Charles, his great grandchildren Asiah Davenport and Josiah Davenport, brother in laws Anthony Charles and Danny Callistro,  sister-in-law Ann Marie Callistro, cousin in laws Glenda and Clyde Henry and Jean and Winston LeMaitre,  friend of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gabriel, Marva Chapman, Sheila and Michelle Garrick, Patrick Pitter and a host of nieces and nephews and other friends too many to mention. On behalf of the Davenport family we would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences and the many expressions of love and kindness during this time of bereavement.
