Obituary

William Clinton Bellenger, IV, fondly known as Clint, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019, in Fort Myers, Florida at the young age of 63.  Clint was the son of the late William Clinton Bellenger, III, (Pete) and Donna Clayton Bellenger.  Clint sadly leaves the love of his life, his devoted companion of 37 years, Bridget King, and their 32-year-old parrot, Schooner.  Clint is also survived by a younger brother and a stepmom.  Clint was born in Germany as a military baby and lived most of his young life in Alabama and Louisiana.  He finished high school in Singapore and went on to serve 3 years in the U.S. Marine Corps also attending the U.S. Naval Academy as an aviation electrician.  He then had successful careers in the contracting business as a carpenter as well as in the oil industry.  Clint loved life – sailing, scuba diving, woodworking, traveling, cooking, sunsets.  There will be no planned services.  Simply asking for prayers for Clint and Bridget.

I wish I had known sooner. Clint was like a brother to me. Unfortunately, it was only one year (sophomore year of high school), but without him, I probably wouldn't have made it. After our sophomore year, his family moved to Singapore, and except for a letter I received from him, I never heard from him again until seven years later, when I ran into him at UNO one day. That was it. I never saw and heard from him again, although I tried to find him on the internet, I found nothing, until I found this obituary. Bridget, I've never met you, but if Clint loved you, I know you must be special. Please know that, he was a special person and is missed by so many people.

Clint was truly one-of-a kind, and that’s meant in the best possible way. He helped me look at life in a different, better way, and I feel fortunate to count him as a friend. The year I spent with you two in New Orleans may not seem like a long time, but that period makes up and outsized part of my memories… y’all were so good to me.
I know you will miss him terribly, Bridget. Me too. I’m so sorry for your loss.

    Aunt Bridget,

We'll all miss Clint terribly, and we were deeply sorry to learn of his passing. I always enjoyed talking with him as he had so many experiences to draw on. A favorite memory of mine is Christmastime at Mere's with all of us enjoying dessert at the dining table, Gramps playing piano in the background, and there's an image I remember of Clint miming words along to the music with Mere. That's the Clint I think of, and the picture here captures that good nature.

All our thoughts are with you every day.

So sorry to hear about the loss of a very talented and unique individual. Bridget – I always enjoyed hearing about scuba trips to exotic destinations, your sailing adventures together, and it was always a treat when we’d see you guys with Schooner during holidays in N.O. Thinking about you during this difficult time and very sorry to hear this sad news.
