William Edgar Moseley Whatley “Bill” 61 years old died of complications from Alzheimers. He was born on October 1, 1958 to Mildred (Dot) and Theodore (Ted) Whatley. A hard working and hard playing devoted husband and father, Bill loved God and his family and friends. He worked as a pharmacist for 30 years and surfed skillfully for 50 years! Bill is survived by his wife, Catharine (Kate) Fullam Whatley, 3 daughters, Dorothy (Dottie) Jean Whatley Porter, husband Kevin Porter, children (Bill’s grandchildren) Daniel and Catharine Porter,Victoria (Tori) Joy Whatley Barnett, husband Alvin Barnett and baby William on the way and Lillian (Lily) May Whatley; brother Theodore (Ted) Whatley, wife Julie Whatley, children, Grace Whatley Freigi, Hilary Whatley, and Teddy Whatley; stepfather, Robert (Bob) Suttle and wife Norma Jenkins Suttle. He was predeceased by his parents Theodore Whatley (d 1976) and Mildred Whatley Suttle (d2010). In John 10:10 Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and they may have it more abundantly.” Bill Whatley lived abundantly. I have very fond memories of Bill. His charisma, enthusiasm and great sense of wonder are gifts that he naturally and graciously shared.
I can see him in my mind's eye fearlessly charging double-overhead surf on a crystal pure morning on the (way!) outside off the beach at Lantana. I know that those moments are eternal. He provided good humor and encouragement to many of us lucky enough to have known him, and I offer my condolences to his family and friends on his departure. Bill lives within your hearts and your faith will see you through your grief at his parting.
