Obituary

Raymond Gorney Sr. passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at his home in Edgewater, Florida. Ray was born October 16, 1929 to Joseph and Theresa Gorney in Syracuse, New York. He grew up in Otisco, with his six brothers and sisters. Ray grew up working on the family farm. He graduated from Tully High School, in 1947. Ray married Nancy Hillenbrand, his wife of 63 years on August, 18 1951. They lived in Otisco, Binghamton and Whitney Point, New York where they began raising their six children. He spent his career in the building supplies industry as a salesman. He was a co-owner of Woodland Specialties, based out of Syracuse, New York. In 1981, Ray and Nancy moved to Florida, where they lived for the next 20 years in both Altamonte Springs and Leesburg. They moved to Idaho in 2002 and lived in Grangeville and Lewiston for the next 11 years. Ray was a devoted husband, and father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, woodworker and handyman. He and Nancy loved to take road trips to visit family and explore the United States. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Gorney, his brothers Louis, Edwin and Joseph Gorney and by his sister Rita Horton. Ray is survived by his wife Nancy Gorney, and their children Raymond Jr., Elizabeth (Sturdevant), Steven, Matthew, Gregory and Amy (Quarry). He is survived by his sisters Irene Pearson and Delores Rioux. Ray also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several son and daughter in-laws.
