Obituary

William M. Freshwater, 81, died peacefully after a brave struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on April 15, 2016 in The Villages, Florida. Bill was born on March 12, 1935 in Homestead, Pennsylvania and attended Munhall High School where he excelled in baseball and football. In 1957, he graduated from Westminster College, and, in recognition of his athletic prowess, he was inducted into the “Titan Sports Hall of Fame.” In 1958, he married his first wife, Carol Murtha. Bill served honorably in the 3rd Armored Division of the U.S. Army and was deployed to Frankfurt, Germany.  In 1992, he re-married to Barbara McClintock.  Bill worked at U.S. Steel for over thirty years and was an active member of Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park. Bill is survived by his loving wife Barbara, two daughters, Terri Cherkin and her husband Brad of Ft. Myers, Florida, Beth Moore and her husband Doug of Los Angeles, California, and his son Will Freshwater and his husband Stephen Cremen of Morristown, New Jersey. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Tami Jubic and her husband Mike of Finleyville, Pennsylvania, and Cindy Paterni and her husband Terry of Chicago, Illinois. He will be missed greatly by his grandchildren, Adam and Kara Cherkin; step-grandchildren, Chris and Kelly Jubic and Lauren Paterni; his cousins Bill and Mary Hayes Loper, and Bernadine and Karl Stigberg; as well as many nieces and nephews.

    I was so very very sorry to learn of Mr. Freshwater's passing, but I know it has been a very long struggle and he suffers no more. His light is added to Heaven and he suffers no more. My deepest sympathy to his family, and my prayers are with you.
