Obituary
William Ray Davis Jr was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 18, 1948 and passed in his home in Matlacha, Florida on November 22, 2019. Ray’s family moved to Montgomery, Alabama when he was nine years old. He and his younger brothers and sisters were raised there. Ray grew up learning the game of golf from his father at Bonnie Crest Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1975 Ray married the love of his life and wife of almost 45 years, Babs. Only a few months after they were married, they moved to Florida for Ray to pursue a career in the game he loved. His lifelong career as a golf pro included several mini tours, country clubs, and instruction. His greatest joy for the game came from helping others learn to play and love the game of golf. Ray was a Player Development Teacher at Florida Gulf Coast University where he was passionate about helping people follow their mutual passion. In addition to his love for golf, Ray was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish the waters of Matlacha, hunt, and travel.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Babs; three siblings Chris (Wanda) Davis, Debbie (Terry) Powell, and Cindy (Roger) Lashley. They have 11 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews. They also have been adherents at Church of the Highlands for the last 10 years.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8 at 12PM at The Club at The Strand in Naples, Florida. (5840 Strand Blvd, Naples). In lieu of flowers, Babs is requesting donations be made to Moffitt Cancer Center for their advanced research program.
