Obituary

Zachary Otto, age 37, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of May 4th 2023 at his home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Zachary is survived by his 12 year old daughter, Maci Otto, and his fiancée and mother of their child, Erin Egnor.

Zachary was born on August 11th 1985 in Gainesville, Florida. He attended Deland High School and lived in Volusia County for most of his life. In 2009 he moved to New Smyrna Beach and worked very hard to provide for his family in various skilled fields until he found his calling in “wind”, working for a renewable energy resource company as a lead wind turbine technician. Zachary was continuing his education and job certifications in this field with high hopes of working on off shore turbines as well as traveling out of the United States to work in the wind fields of other countries.

Zach’s daughter would like for him to be remembered for the many things they did together. Zach enjoyed cooking, organic gardening, visiting the beach, fishing and boating, scuba diving, swimming Florida springs, hiking trails, tubing, canoeing, basketball, taking walks with his family and dogs as well as so many other things. Zachary was invested in his family to the extent that he would have done anything in the world for them. He was always up for anything his daughter wanted to do, was so fun to be around, and he will be deeply missed.

Zach made an impression on everyone he met with his outgoing personality, loud voice and his great sense of humor.

Zachary had plans to move to North Georgia in June of this year, where he would reside with his daughter, Maci Otto and Erin Egnor. They intended to build a home in Blairsville with family. The ground is broken and foundation is now poured. The home will soon be built, but will be missing the most important reason for it’s existence.

Donations or gifts in his memory can be sent to Erin Egnor at 511 Aeolian Drive in New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168. Maci Otto has plans to attend college and honor her father’s memory by scattering his ashes in the places that they visited over the course of their time together. These locations include many places in Florida, Georgia and New York.

From the day dear Zachary was born, the world was made sweeter. As a young boy, we both have wonderful memories of his carefree joy and his smart, inquisitive nature. His radiant heart and warming smile will forever be etched in our minds and hearts. Words cannot describe the hole his loss leaves in us and in all who loved him so. We send our love and pray for strength and comfort for all his family. He now flies free in the arms of angels.

My friend Zach was my buddy from a very young age … We were road runners, terriers and we were part of a paintball team called team spyder. I spent a lot my childhood hanging out with Zach and I basically grew up with him. He was a very dear friend of mine that made me laugh and feel good about being his friend. I will never forget the memories I made with him. Zachary will be missed but not forgotten. My condolences for his family… I am very sorry for your loss…

Zachary is so deeply missed. He was my first born beautiful son. He leaves behind not only Maci, his legacy and Erin, the love of his life Maci's mother, but his loving family, His father, Dave, his twin siblings Marissa and Daniel, his step father George and his step brothers and sisters, Michael, Christina, Gabriel, Nicole. Nigel, David, Erin, and Sean. A mother never expects to live beyond their children. Its the worst heart break. Zach was so very special. He had a tender, sensitive heart. He was full of dreams. He made us laugh like no other. He had many struggles but tried hard to be the best he could be, Zach was a hard worker and accomplished allot in his short life. The day he turned 16 it was his desire to go out and look for and get a job. That's who he was. He was so proud of his daughter and loved spending time with his family including their 4 dogs. This is all so surreal. Please remember him with love in your heart. We love you so much sweetheart and you will always be in our heart.
    Forever, Mom

Zach Otto, or as we knew him during our wind tech training. “Otto” . I will personally say he has had a huge impact on my life, I’m blessed that I got to meet him and make so many memories with him! From the times we took my dog to the lake to just sitting in the truck talking and all the wind tech memories created, the nights on the town and the quite nights, I may have only known him 4-5 weeks but it doesn’t take that long to call him family, since day 1 in San Angelo for training , all of us away from home bonding over the same thing. Myself and many others shared long talks and many memories with him. Otto is the best person I have met throughout this industry, so caring, family oriented. I’m blessed to call him a friend and a brother in this industry, Its hard to speak on this matter but may he rest in peace, he will be greatly missed by many family and friends and all of us at the company we worked together at.

Zach possessed a genuine kindness that radiated within him, touching the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a compassionate heart, going out of his way to lend a helping hand to those In need without expecting anything in return. His word was filled with warmth and encouragement. He was a go-getter and an extraordinary storyteller. When I first met him in July of 2021, he saw my gold grill and said, “Whaaaaaat!” he wanted to get some too. After that, we locked in and became great pals over the next two years; every day, working together, he was my brother's keeper. Zach worked hard not to let others down. This statement lives up to its name, as many would know, the existing challenges faced in our industry. Zach, you are loved, and you will be greatly missed!

Zach had a warm heart and a beautiful and loving spirit. He made us laugh and reminded us never to take ourselves too seriously. The world needs more people like Zach. His spirit will be missed by everyone who knew him.
