In Loving Memory of Jerry Lee Florence
February 2, 1944 – January 5, 2025
Jerry Lee Florence, 80, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025. Born into a military family on February 2, 1944, to Lee and Mattie Lou Florence, Jerry spent his early years traveling the world with his parents and siblings.
Jerry followed in his family’s footsteps by serving his country with honor. As a highly decorated U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he achieved the rank of E4 during his service from November 16, 1967, to April 19, 1971. While stationed in New York, he met the love of his life, Anne Marie, whom he married and cherished for 47 years. Together, they raised two children, Angela and Glenn.
After retiring from his dedicated career with Volusia County Schools, Jerry spent his days enjoying life’s simple pleasures—fishing, walking the dog, visiting the beach, and playing with his beloved pets. Among his greatest joys was the Super Bowl, his favorite occasion, which he eagerly anticipated each year, celebrating the excitement of the game with family and friends.
Jerry lived by the motto, “The more you tell the truth, the less you have to remember,” a principle he carried with him throughout his life.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Mattie Lou, his wife, Ann Marie, and his best friend, Mike Carter. He is survived by his children, Angela Marie Florence and Glenn Andrew Florence, his Son-in-Law Christopher Lord Howard as well as his granddaughter, Anna Marie Howard.
Jerry’s legacy of love, service, and honesty will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Jerry’s memory by enjoying a walk on the beach, spending time with loved ones, or cheering on your favorite team during the next Super Bowl.
