Obituary
Margaret Lee Dausman, known lovingly as Mom, Mema, Margaret, Marge, Margie, Maggie, Aunt Margie, and Aunt Maggie, passed away peacefully in Tavares, Florida, just shy of her 80th birthday, after a long battle with complications from osteoporosis.
Born on June 17, 1945, in Waukegan, Illinois, Margaret was the cherished daughter of Leo and Evelyn (Businger)Tekampe and sister to 8 siblings. Margaret attended Immaculate Conception and Holy Child High School, and she was a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth’s Nursing School (1966) in Chicago, where she forged lifelong friendships with her beloved nursing school sisters, Sue Lambert, Pat Meade Wolfe, Claudia Lemke Earth and Agnes Rasimas. Margaret went on to have a long and meaningful career in nursing, serving as a pediatric, emergency room, and surgical circulating nurse. She worked at St. Theresa and Vista hospitals in Waukegan, touching countless lives with her compassion, skill, and dedication in the same community she grew up in. Her coworkers became dear friends and extended family.
Margaret shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with her husband and partner in all things, William Dausman. Together, they raised two children, Michael (Angela) and Mickele in Ingleside, IL. Their lives were further enriched by Jeremy (Jerry), Bill’s son from a previous marriage, and his wife Nicole, whose presence brought deeper connection and joy to the family.
Margaret found immense happiness in her grandchildren: Joe, Michaelia, Will, Anthony, Kaitlin, Karly Mason, and Collin—each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Margaret’s Catholic faith was a steady presence throughout her life. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Bede in Ingleside, Illinois, and later at St. Patrick’s in Eustis, Florida, where she and Bill continued to nurture their spiritual lives.
Margaret was godmother to many, including Joseph Tekampe, Kimberly (Franklin) Anderson, John Tekampe, Deanna (Cash) Peloquin, Edward Cash, Kenneth Tekampe, Kristina (Tekampe) Shelley, Jim Syvertsen, and Danny Ochoa—a testament to the depth of her relationships and the love she poured into her extended family.
She found joy in the everyday moments: sharing stories (and a little gossip), capturing memories through photos, and spending time with those she loved. Margaret was kind, caring, generous, and funny; and maybe just a bit bossy sometimes. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cherished, and was a loving force in every life she touched.
The Dausman family is especially grateful for those who loved and supported Margaret and Bill during Margaret’s final years: Margaret’s twin sister Mary Cash and niece Cherie Cash Pates, Tania and Leo SanPedro, April and Gary Carter, the compassionate team at Cornerstone Hospice including Pat, Valerie, Theresa, Chaplain Sam, Kelli, Deborah, Michelle and so many others; Brenda Houser, Fran William and Matt Duckham at Osprey Lodge, Father Hank at St. Patrick’s, and Mary Weeks. Your care and presence brought comfort and peace to Margaret and her family when it was needed most.
A Mass in honor of Margaret will be held at Saint Patrick’s Church in Eustis, Florida, Thursday May 1st at 9:00 a.m. at St Patrick’s in Mount Dora. A link for online viewing is available upon request. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held this summer in Waukegan, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Margaret to Loyola University’s Margaret Lee Tekampe Dausman Nursing Scholarship.
