Obituary

David (Dave) Bottorff, born August 20, 1946, in Seymour, Indiana, passed away at home in The Villages, Florida on April 13, 2025, with his wife Margaret by his side. Dave and Margaret were married July 18, 1969, and together have shared a life of adventure and love in their 56 years together. Dave and Margaret both enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, participating in sports and on occasion cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. They both enjoyed the camaraderie of playing tennis, pickle ball and golf. Dave was known for his quick wit and deep devotion to family and community.

Dave and Margaret were married after he had received his undergraduate degree and an MBA from Ball State University. After college, he accepted a position with Cummins, Inc. starting a career with the Company that spanned 38 years. Soon after starting with Cummins, he served two years in the US Army.

During that time, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze star.

During his time with Cummins Dave, Margaret and their son Brett lived in Columbus, Indiana, Fostoria, Ohio and Jamestown New York making lifelong memories. During his career, Dave was fortunate to travel to many international locations where he enjoyed working with diverse cultures, getting to know his colleagues and enjoying the local cuisines.

Over the years, Dave served on several nonprofit organizations including the United Way, Boys Club and Volunteers in Medicine. Dave was also the coach of several of Brett’s hockey and soccer teams.

He also very much enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors at JCB (previously Jackson County Bank).

He enjoyed the challenges, rewards and self-development of serving in this capacity. He often commented on his enjoyment of serving with the talented members of the Board of Directors and the bank management. After retiring as a director for 20 years, he was recognized as a Director Emeritus.

Dave leaves behind his wife Margaret Bottorff, son Brett Bottorff, and granddaughters Lucille (Lucy) Bottorff, Eleanor (Ellie) Bottorff and brother Richard Bottorff (Nancy) and several nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father GB Bottorff, mother Clarice Bottorff, and brothers Steven and Robert.

Donations to the David and Margaret STEM Elementary Education at The Heritage Fund in Columbus Indiana would be much appreciated. He attended Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. A private service is planned, and while no public service will be held, he would encourage you to enjoy a beautiful sunset with a memory of him in your thoughts.

I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the family of David Bottorff whom I had the pleasure to know and work with at Cummins Engine Company in the 1970s and 80s. I communicated with Dave on many projects, and he was always upbeat and helpful to explain financial details which greatly supported my work as project manager. Dave was a great contributor at work and a true colleague and friend.
