Obituary

Howard John Gault, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 24, 2025, in The Villages, Florida. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Howard built a life rooted in love, family, and service to others. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Sr. and Jean Gault, and his brother, Gary Gault.

A dedicated healthcare administrator by profession, Howard spent his career helping others, always with quiet strength and steady leadership. But it was outside of work where his truest joys came to life — playing golf with his wife and friends at The Villages, going out for ice cream, or cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams. His happiest moments were always those shared with the people he loved most.

Howard will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jane; his sons, Jason (Tasha) and Ryan (Jen); and his three cherished grandchildren. His family was his heart, his pride, and his purpose.

Howard absolutely adored his boys. He never stopped being their biggest fan — whether it was standing at the outfield fence, cheering from the bleachers, or just picking up the phone to offer advice or share a laugh. His pride in the men they became was matched only by his joy in being “Grampa” to his grandchildren. Nothing lit him up like time with his grandkids — whether playing games, telling stories, or sneaking them a “treat.” He saw each moment with them as a gift, and he made sure they knew just how deeply they were loved, with a cross on their foreheads and a kiss goodnight.

Howard’s Catholic faith was a quiet but steady presence in his life. He often spoke about St. Jude, his go-to patron saint, especially when things got tough. It was just like Howard to face challenges with a mix of faith, humor, and unwavering optimism — always believing that things would work out in the end.

And humor was a big part of who he was. Howard had a quick wit and an easy laugh, and he never passed up the chance to tell a joke or find a funny angle in everyday life. He brought joy and laughter wherever he went.

Howard was a man of countless friendships and lasting connections. To know him was to feel seen, appreciated, and truly cared for. If you had asked him how he wanted to be remembered, he would have said simply, “as a good man.” But those who knew him would agree — good doesn’t quite cover it.

Howard’s legacy is one of faith, kindness, quiet strength, loyalty, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. . . with a cross and a kiss!

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church in Bellevue, FL, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19th. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow at Allamanda Recreation Center in The Villages, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
