Obituary

Richard William Reber, 87, of University Park, Florida passed away quietly on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born in Abingdon, PA on September 27, 1937, to Fred and Willamina (Mina) Moeller Reber.

After high school he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He then attended Penn State University and graduated with a degree in engineering. He finished his master’s studies at University of Pennsylvania.

He started his career at GE in Philadelphia and moved to Washington, DC in 1969, where he worked at General Research Corporation. He embarked on a lengthy career focused on defense work, including time at the CIA.

He was President of Delta Corporation and then moved on to SAIC where he completed his life’s work. He retired as a Corporate Vice President of Science Applications International Corporation.

He met Glo Lawler in Washington, DC. They married on November 5, 1977, attended by Lady Margaret MacDuff, their first beloved Scotty dog! They resided in Old Town, Alexandria for many years and moved out to Leesburg, VA before retiring to Glo’s family home in Iowa Falls, IA. They spent 24 happy years at their home on the water in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Richard’s great joy was getting crabs off the dock and oysters from the local watermen. They moved to the Sarasota area of Florida enjoying all it has to offer.

Richard was truly a Renaissance man, being well read with sophisticated tastes. He enjoyed many hobbies. He loved to cook and always created a special feast. He and his wife, Glo, were fortunate to have traveled around the world. Best were the memories of Christmases spent in Ireland and winters in Spain.

Richard and Glo still retain membership in the Loudoun/Fairfax Hunt and relished their friendships and good times at the Hunt Races through many years.

Richard enjoyed nothing more than entertaining friends for a special dinner or enjoying a fine cigar and dram of scotch. And, of course, petting Kelly, their Scotty. A life well lived!

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Fred, sisters in law, Mary Beth Lawler, Georgia Lawler Tyler, Mary Catherine Lawler and nephew, James Reber.

He is survived by his wife, Glo Lawler Reber, a son, Rick, a brother-in-law, John Lawler, and nieces and nephews.
