Obituary

It is with a heavy yet grateful heart that we share the passing of Bob (Oliver Robert) Hoffman, who left this world peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his cherished wife, Carol, after an inspiring 34 years of marriage. Bob was the youngest son of the late Martin and Florence (Rhoads) Hoffman and grew up in the warm community of Pottstown, PA.

From a young age, Bob demonstrated a strong work ethic, helping out on the family farm, delivering milk, and managing a paper route during his early teens. His passion for life was infectious, particularly when it came to big bands, jazz music, and dancing at the vibrant Sunnybrook Ballroom. He also had a love for baseball and cherished the memory of visiting Shibe Park to meet the legendary Connie Mack, manager of the Philadelphia Athletics—a moment that he fondly shared over the years.

Bob proudly served in the Navy during World War II, earning an honorable discharge in 1946 as a Fire Controlman 3rd Class. His commitment to service didn’t end there; he later joined the Army and completed his duties with honor as a Corporal in 1952. He learned the trade of auto body repair, which he turned into a rewarding career, serving as the Body Shop Manager for Faulkner Oldsmobile in Northeast Philadelphia for an impressive 22 years.

After retiring, Bob and Carol embraced life in Hilton Head Island, SC, delighting in beach walks, bicycling the trails, gym sessions, church activities, and most importantly, each other’s company. Their shared love for baseball sparked many memorable travels to stadiums across the nation. In 2020, they made a new home in sunny Florida.

Bob was preceded in death by his siblings: Evelyn Schwoyer, Martin “Hank” Hoffman, Helen Somma, and his stepson, David Hallahan. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Theda Jensen (Rick) of Salem, SC, and Bonnie Boyles (Ron) of Pottstown, PA, as well as stepchildren John Hallahan (Rachel), Christine Phair (Craig), and Diane Harrison (Carl), plus four wonderful grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Remembered for his kindness, warmth, and ever-present smile, Bob was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband, always ready with a friendly wave and a heartfelt greeting.

Donations can be made in memory of Bob to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or Tidewell Hospice in Manatee County, FL.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
