Obituary
Frances “LaVerne” Munn was born on November 14, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia to Ben P. Pulley and Susie Thomas Pulley. LaVerne went to be with the Lord on September 21, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, who passed away in June of 2024, whom she married in Warren Plains, North Carolina in December of 1950. She was one of seven children and is survived by her brother, Malcolm Pulley. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Dorothy West, Eloise White, Bennie Pulley, Thomas Pulley and Hazel Spaulding.
She is also survived by her three children Debra (Walt) Munn Chalkley of The Villages, Florida, Glenn (Diane) Munn of Richmond, Virginia, and David (Jennifer) Munn of Richmond, Virginia; as well as several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
First and foremost, LaVerne was a mother and a homemaker, only having occasional part-time jobs as a sales clerk at Murphy’s, cashier at Westover Movie Theatre, money counter at Brink’s as well as some volunteer positions such as room parent, Sunday school teacher and money counter at Jahnke Road Baptist Church as well as the secretary on several bowling leagues at Ten Pin Coliseum.
LaVerne continued to center her life around family and a quieter life, especially as William phased into retirement. They both followed NASCAR, especially her favorite drivers: Dale Earnhardt, Sr., Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Darrell Waltrip, and could easily cite specific statistics and upcoming races.
After residing in Richmond her entire life, she and William moved to Lady Lake, Florida in April of 2023, to spend their golden years and enjoy the Florida sunshine and mild winters as well as spend some fun times with Debbie and Walt. At this point, she now wanted to be called Frances and played BINGO on a regular basis and took up two new hobbies: gym time and cornhole!!! Her love of animals continued, and she enjoyed the monthly visits from the Dynamic Dogs at her assisted living as well as following the antics of the resident courtyard tortoise.
Her favorite charities were local charities that assist animals. arrangements entrusted with BALDWIN BROTHERS Funeral & Cremation Society-Spanish Springs, 352-430-1449. Sentiments are encouraged at www.baldwincremation.com.
