Obituary

Philip Edward Atkerson of Daytona Beach, Florida left this earth peacefully on September 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Phil is survived by his wife, Paula Dean Atkerson, his daughter, Marni Atkerson McCoy, her husband, Robert McCoy, his sister, Joy Aldridge, his grandchildren Cody McCoy (Kasey), Tyler McCoy and great granddaughter Rylah McCoy. He was united in death with his parents Charles Atkerson, Sr. and Elizabeth Atkerson, and his brother Charles Atkerson, Jr.

Phil was born in Tallahassee, Florida, on May 22, 1948. He attended Central Florida Jr. College where he met his wife, Paula. He graduated from the University of West Florida where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He began his career with Holland Rantos and left them to work for Scott Paper Company for many years. He was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Greater Daytona Beach Striking Fish Tournament Committee and vacations always included the Florida Keys to fish and dive for lobster. He loved to spend weekends offshore fishing most Saturdays with his buddies and Sundays were for Family. He was an exceptional handyman and could build just about anything from furniture to fireplace mantles or just anything Paula wanted. He loved golfing and later in life Jeeping with his wife and antique shopping. One of his greatest loves was spending time with his grandchildren.

There will be a private Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
