Obituary
Matthew William Sand was born on his mother’s birthday, October 7, 1984, in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 4, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. He was blessed with many God-given talents. He was a precocious student in all subjects. He was an accomplished musician and a composer at an early age and continued a love of music throughout life as an enthusiastic supporter of live concerts, particularly Dave Matthews Band. His many interests and talents included athletic pursuits during the high school years in soccer, wakeboarding, cross country, track and skiing. As an adult, he became a committed and relatively talented golfer. He was a creative force in preparation for the annual SandHill golf classic among his closest friends. He graduated from Lake Highland Preparatory School in 2003, with honors, and attended the University of Florida, graduating in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He is a member of The Sigma Chi fraternity. He and his pledge brothers witnessed four national championships during their undergraduate years. Matthew had a quick wit and engaging smile, making friends easily. He enjoyed a long-standing interest and facile understanding of computer applications and remained on the cutting edge of Apple technology since its inception. For several years after graduation, he was involved in financial services in Atlanta, New York and Dallas. He met Leslie Hayman in April 2013 while both were attending bachelorette and bachelor parties in San Juan, Puerto Rico for different weddings. Their assignment to the same flight back to New York City marked the beginning of their relationship. This blossomed over the ensuing year, and they both made the decision to relocate to Orlando in 2015, where Matthew pursued a career in real estate finance and development. Leslie pursued a career as a sports medicine physician assistant. They were married on July 28, 2017, in Highlands, NC. Their first son Liam was born in March 2019 and Austin followed in June 2020. These active boys enjoy art, music and multiple sports affectionately with their Daddy. While there was much great joy there was also deep depression. Now we are left with many rich memories, prayers and Jesus’ promise of Salvation. In addition to his wife and sons, Matthew is survived by his father, Dr. Mark E. Sand, mother, Leslie Sand; brothers, Justin Sand (Allyson), Ryan Sand, Christopher Sand; nephews, Jack Sand and Joey Chiappa, niece, Kate Sand and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
