Obituary
Barbara Boudreaux, known as “Barri” to most of her friends, was born Barbara Marks, on March 25, 1938, in New York City, to vaudevillian and show business parents. She attended The Professional Children’s School in Manhattan up through the sixth grade.
Her family moved to St. Petersburg, where she attended South Side Junior High. When her family moved to New Jersey, she attended Roxbury High School, from which she graduated in 1955. She then attended Douglass College of Rutgers University, where she majored in speech therapy and drama, graduating in 1959. In college, she met Paul Boudreaux, whom she married shortly after graduation. The couple had two children.
The couple lived in Clifton, New Jersey and Barbara worked as a speech therapist for the Boro of Hopatcong school system. In 1962, they moved to Maryland, outside Washington, DC. In Maryland, Barbara was a Child Discussion Group Leader and audiovisual aide for the Prince George’s County, MD school system and later worked as a trainer for a company contracted to the U.S. government. She was very active in local theatre, both as an actor and director, primarily with Silver Spring Stage. She was honored with Theater Lobby’s Mary Goldwater Award in 1989 for her contribution to Washington Area theater.
The couple started snow-birding to Ft. Myers Beach in 2001 and moved permanently to St. Petersburg in 2007. They lived in Old Northeast. Locally, Barbara was active as a docent at the Chihuly Collection, she volunteered at St. Anthony’s Hospital and the Museum of Fine Arts, and as an officer in her condominium association.
Barbara and Paul traveled extensively, both at home and abroad. It became their greatest pleasure. They have many photos and fond memories of their travels.
In 2007, she and her husband moved to Westminster Suncoast, where she particularly enjoyed swimming and taking part with the Suncoast theater group and chorus. She lived at Suncoast until her death. She is survived by her husband, Paul; and her children, Paul Jr. (wife, Lisa Kosow) and Lisa Marie (husband, Nathan Sturm) of Chicago.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Westminster Suncoast on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m.
