Obituary

Anna Jean ‘Tommie’ Adkins Hite, 95 and widow of John Harvey Hite, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the 6th day of May, 2023 at Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative, The Villages, FL, after suffering from dementia.  She was surrounded by her loved ones.  Anna was born on May 21, 1927 in Huntington, WV.  She was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Leva Adkins of Huntington, WV.   She was also preceded in death by an infant brother Robert Adkins, Jr., her sister and brother in law, Aldene and Bill Barbour and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  She is survived by her daughter Sue Ann Baughman and husband Donald Baughman of Bear, DE; granddaughter Michelle Harris of Bear, DE; granddaughter Melissa Ito and husband Sam Ito of Glen Mills, PA; great granddaughters Maya and Emika Ito; a nephew Kent Barbour and wife Donna Barbour of Vienna, WV and great nieces and nephews.  During childhood, she discovered the love of outdoor activities and sports, hence the nickname ‘Tommie’ for tomboy.  Anna graduated from Huntington High School with the class of 1945.  During her teen and early adulthood years she played on softball and basketball teams.  She met her husband John and married in 1952.  She moved with John and her family to Hollywood, Florida in 1960 where she lived for many years.  She was employed with the State of Florida for 20 years, retiring in Ocala, FL.  She loved the tropical surroundings.  She loved her family and immensely enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and other relatives.  She will be remembered for her love of family, laughter and humorous personality.  Baptist churches were her choice for worship and membership throughout her lifetime.

The service and burial were held at the Florida National Veterans Cemetery on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:00 pm.    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Down Syndrome Association of DE, PO Box 747, Middletown, DE 19709 or via the website https://www.dsadelaware.org/volunteer/donate/
