Obituary
Margaret “Peggy” Gabbert MacKechnie age 68 of Ocala Florida passed away on Friday May 26th. Peggy was born on February 13, 1955 to James Russell Gabbert and Charlotte Jeanne Black in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended elementary and high school in Greenfield Indiana, and then college at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana earning a BS in Elementary Education.
Peggy was a school teacher for many years in Indiana, Florida and Connecticut until she retired and moved to Ocala FL. After retirement she became active in the Leeward Air Ranch community where she lived with her husband. Peggy enjoyed watercolor painting, bridge with the girls, and always lending a hand at social activities at the ‘Red Barn’ community center. Peggy’s smiling face and sense of humor greeted all at the door who attended social events at the Red Barn. She loved spending time with family members, especially at the family cottage on Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana. Peggy was an avid board and card game player with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, and friend.
Peggy is survived by her husband Lewis C. MacKechnie, her son Matthew Drexler, sisters Patricia Gabbert, Mary (David) Shirley, Barbara (Kevin) King, brother James Gabbert and sister in law Barbara Gabbert. She is also survived by niece Kaitlin Genevish and nephews James Gabbert, Brendan King and Jordan King. She is preceded in death by her parents James & Jeanne Gabbert, along with her brother Joseph Gabbert.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a future date.
