Obituary
Barbara Mary Makowski (nee Yesenofski), 92, passed away peacefully at home in Edgewater, FL on October 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Eugene A. Makowski. She was the devoted mother of Alice Smith Logan and her husband Michael (Waynesboro, PA), David Makowski and his wife Linda (Sykesville, MD), Jean Waagbo and her husband Stephen (Christiansburg, VA), Doris Harrington and her husband TJ (New Smyrna Beach, FL), and Susan Makowski (Orlando, FL); beloved grandmother of Nicholas Smith and his wife Elizabeth, Justin Waagbo and his wife Bailey, Kristen Waagbo and husband Kyle, Katlyn Smith, Jessica Makowski, Madeline Makowski, and Alex Makowski, USN.; and adoring great-grandmother of Kohen & Remi Smith & Livvie Tavares, Avery & Zoe Waagbo, and Caslen and Lane Skiera.
She is survived by her sisters Mary Tarr and Wallis Kelbaugh and many nieces and nephews and their families. She holds a special place in the heart of Beth Dutton.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter Yesenofski and Frances (Skiba) Yesenofski, her sister Joan (Yesenofski) Boone, and former son-in-law James Smith.
She was born on September 25, 1931 in Hazelton, PA before moving to the Baltimore, MD area where she graduated from Southern High School. She and her husband began raising their family in Glen Burnie, MD where she belonged to the Holy Trinity Players theatre group and sang in the church choir and earned a place in Handel’s Messiah in Baltimore. They then built their family home in Ellicott City, MD where she was active in starting the Resurrection Catholic Church folk group and CCD Sunday School programs as well as singing in the Columbia Choral Society. She worked in administration at Head Sportwear, Hydronautics Research and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. After retirement she and her husband moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL where she sang in the Harmony Sound Waves, was an active member of the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and volunteered at the Edgewater Library and Southeast Volusia Relay for Life. She lived life fully serving family, friends, her church, and community. She was a friend to all.
Interment will be at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery (Crownsville, MD). In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Little Pink Houses of Hope www.littlepink.org.
