Obituary

David Bryant Shaw, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, dog Dad, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 45. He is survived by his mother Carol, brother Tony (Kelly), nephews Tony and Evan, Aunts and Uncles Tony (Diane), Susanne (Robert), Isabelle, and Steve (Maura), cousins Amy (Jason), Danielle (Dan), Antonia (John), Emily, and Devon, and his dog Bo. He is preceded in death by his father, Bryant Shaw.

David was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Maryland, Colorado, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Alabama. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, in 2000 and later achieved a Master of Business Administration in 2008 from Rollins College, Winter Park, FL.

After graduating from FSU, David moved to Orlando, where he spent most of his career working in finance.  His hard work and dedication in that industry paid off, as David rose to a Vice President position with a large, multi-national bank. In recent years, David developed a love for politics, working in the political process both on campaigns and within the state legislature. This work brought about many new friends who became like family to him.

Outside of his professional work, David also served as an activist against red light cameras, exposing them as profit centers in various media interviews. David also volunteered extensively with the Alzheimer’s Association.

Beyond his career achievements, David/Dave/Davie is best known for his love of family and his large group of friends, which attests to the impact he had on those around him.  Known to them as a kind and fun-loving individual, David brought joy, warmth, and support to their lives and will be missed dearly.

David’s illness later in life introduced various complications that he was not able to overcome. But that period represented only a small fraction of his life.   Rather, he will be remembered for his ever-cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, his generous heart, and radiant smile.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in David’s honor to The Sharing Center https://thesharingcenter.org/celebrationgift/

A celebration of life will be held for David at a later date.

I am sad to have discovered this just now. I am honored to have called David a friend from junior and high school in Montgomery. We both cherished the moniker of band nerds and owned it. We had hours of conversations trying to figure out our place in the world as young teenagers and clearly had no clue what we were talking about. Religion, politics, science, nature, culture…dude nothing was off the table. I’ll always remember our friendship and know he’ll be missed. Much love to his mother and brother, Tony, and the rest of the family. God Bless you all!

David was a thoughtful and informative person who taught me a lot about local government and the red light camera scam that changed a good idea into a money grab for cities and counties. He worked hard to understand the issue and explained it very well. His passion was contagious.

Unfortunately, I did see the change in his personality in recent years and really didn’t know what to do…it breaks my heart that he’s gone. He had so much to offer the world.
